Long time, no post. So, first let me wish you the best for 2008.

As I told you in my Holiday video message (nobody got the guts/time/urge to post a video reply until now, but you can still share your hope for 2008 via a YouTube video if you feel like it), my New Year’s resolutions include big plans for this blog and Higher Ed Experts.

I’m sure you do have big professional plans, too.

And, if you’ve read “Thanks to YouTube, Professors Are Finding New Audiences,” an excellent article written by Jeffrey Young and published today in The Chronicle, there’s a bigger chance that launching an online video initiative at your institution might be on your short list of 2008 resolutions.

Well, if this is the case I’ve got good news for you.

An online survey conducted last November among HEE registered members found that 53% would be interested in an encore live presentation of the 3-webinar series about online videos presented last September: Lights, Camera, Action – How to Add Online Videos to Your Marketing Mix.

This 3-webinar series focuses on how to easily use video on the web to expand your institutional P.R. capabilities and connect effectively with your target audiences in an engaging and accessible format.

January 30, 2008 – 1PM-2PM ET
Cover Your Own News for YouTube — and the Web
James Todd, Writer and Producer at Duke University, will tell you why it makes sense to add online videos the more traditional PR toolkit. He will also explain how you can use online videos to cover news that will find an audience on YouTube.

January 31, 2008 – 1PM-2PM ET
Recruit Students with Your Videos: How videos can help you engage more prospective students
David Burge, Associate Director of Admissions at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and host of RealNebraska, will explain why and how his institution chose to launch its own video show in 2003. He will also share tips and tricks that his 4 years experience of weekly video production have taught him, and how they can help you.

That’s why after talking to the speakers of this series (Andy Mrozkowski, James Todd and David Burge), I’ve decided to schedule it again this month to help you kickstart an online video initiative at your institution.

Registration is open online until January 21, 2008 at 8PM ET at www.higheredexperts.com/onlinevideos.

It will also be the last live series offered with the 50% discount for HEE members – that is at $150 for the 3-webinar series instead of the regular price of $300. So, it’s an opportunity for you to try HEE professional development offering at a great deal.

Personally, I think the more portable the content the better, especially if you can brand the container, as at http://feedlearner.com

Here’s a demo to of how to make sets of youtube playlists portable and playable in a Grazr widget, using the UCB youtube video lectures as an example: http://blogs.open.ac.uk/Maths/ajh59/012375.html
