Higher Ed TV: Insider’s View series from Huntington University

Current students’ testimonials are priceless for prospective students because they offer peers’ opinions about a given institution.

That’s why more and more high school seniors (and their parents) check out student blogs about college life.

Huntington University, a Christian college based in Indiana, offers a series of short videos titled “Insider’s View” on its YouTube channel.

Nicely produced, most of these videos are composed of edited bits of interviews where students are asked about their major, classes, faculty and opportunities.

As a result, they are also a great way to learn about featured academic programs as you can see in the PR major video:

In the Film major video, clips from the student’s film portfolio have even been included:

While the video featuring Dr. Lance Clark, associate professor of Communication, is a bit longer than the others, it’s actually a very good promotional multi-target piece. An alum of Huntington University, this faculty member explains why he decided to come back and teach at his alma mater. Footages from his graduation day are included in the video:

Obviously, these videos are highly produced, which makes sense as the discipline is taught at this institution. A TV program broadcast on the Internet is also produced at Huntington.

The only thing I would add to these YouTube videos is a call to action or a website address on their last frame as done by Duke University on its one-question interview video.

Don’t forget that once uploaded to YouTube your institution videos can not only be seen on your YouTube channel, but also on any website that chooses to broadcast them on their pages. That’s why it’s important to provide as much context as possible in the video itself.

If you would like your YouTube videos to be featured on Higher Ed TV, you can just tag them “higheredtv” or send me an email at karine@collegewebeditor.com.

In the meantime, tell us what think about Huntington’s videos by posting a comment!
