Calling all higher ed web talents: presenters, speakers, freelancers and moonlighters

I don’t plan to turn this blog into the front door of a talent agency, but I got an idea.

A couple of months ago Dick Jones from Dick Jones Communications asked me if I could recommend a higher ed web pro to give a talk about web statistics at the annual professional development conference of the College and University Public Relations Association of Pennsylvania (CUPRAP) starting today in Hershey, PA.

I did, but unfortunately the person I recommended had a last-minute issue and couldn’t make it. Last week, Dick asked me if I knew somebody else. I contacted 3 others web pros I’ve been in contact with but none were available at that time.

This was an interesting – yet missed – opportunity to talk in front an interested audience with travel expenses and accommodations paid. There was even a stipend for the speaker…

This got me thinking. If my network included more higher ed web pros, I’m sure I would have been able to find somebody else.

So, here’s the deal: if you are a higher ed web pro (web designer, webmaster, web developer, web editor, information architect, etc.) and are interested in this type of opportunities, why don’t you send me a quick note at karine@collegewebeditor.com with your areas of expertise, background, contact information and hourly rate — in case you would like to be considered for moonlighting projects, too?

If/when I’m asked to refer somebody for a conference or a freelance project and your skills set is the right fit, I’ll contact you first. If you’re interested and available, only then will I pass along your information. For moonlighting projects, I could even act as the middle (wo)man.

How does it sound?

On the conference speaking side, there’s also the Speaker’s Wiki, where anyone can post information about their areas of expertise. It would be great to see more in higher ed taking advantage of this resource.
