Just a quick post to share this message that Michael Dame, Director of Web Communications at Virginia Tech, asked me to pass to all of you:
To our higher education colleagues,
Words cannot adequately express our gratitude for your response to our tragedy here at Virginia Tech. Our web team has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from colleagues, family, and friends. I think I speak for everyone here when I say the world feels much smaller to us this week.
These events have demonstrated just how connected we all are as a higher education community. Just look at the growing list of institutions… I can’t tell you how proud that makes me feel to be your colleague.
Many of you also have personally delivered complimentary messages regarding how we have handled this tragedy on our website, both from a presentation and a communications perspective. That is heartening, providing affirmation during a time of extreme stress. I hope that in the near future, we’ll have the opportunity to discuss our experiences to our mutual benefit as a higher education community.
I apologize for not thanking each of you individually; time just does not allow it. But I wanted to get this note out to everyone as soon as possible. I want to specifically thank Karine Joly for facilitating this effort for which we are so grateful.
On behalf of our web team – webmaster Bruce Harper, designer Elaine Oliver, and producer Kim Haines …
… with sincere and heartfelt thanks,
Mike Dame
Director of Web Communications

Karine,
Thanks for facilitating this. Our College and University Public Relations Association of PA listserve has been really active the last three days with messages of support for the PR team and everyone else at VT. It was nice to be able to see a name attached to the whole traumatic experience and it was good of Mike to take the time, even now, to write. I imagine everyone there is exhausted and will be for some time.
Thanks again.
Thanks for your comments, Mark, Karen and Dennis.
