With the end of the semester (as well as most commencement ceremonies) behind us, things should finally start to slow down a bit for people working in universities and colleges.
There’s no better time for you to think about professional development opportunities. So, here is the selection I’ve put together for you:
- “How to go viral with your videos on YouTube” – June 14 (free but limited number of seats, registration required before June 1st)
This free 1-hour event will feature Professor Wesch from KSU (the author of the YouTube hit about Web 2.0) and James Todd from Duke University. Registration is open to people working in higher ed institutions, but you need to become a HEE member first. You can register at www.higheredexperts.com/register (membership is free and more than 320 have registered since April 23). - “Crisis Communication Week 2.0: Lessons Learned after the Virginia Tech Tragedy” – June 26, 27 & 28 ($250 per connection, $100 of which will be donated to the Virginia Tech Memorial Hokie Spirit Fund – limited number of seats, registration open until June 18)
This 3-webinar series will feature Mike Dame, director of Web communications at Virginia Tech, Joe Hice, AVP at the University of Florida and Andrew Careaga, director of communications at UMR.

- EduComm Conference 2007 – June 19, 20 & 21 in Anaheim, CA ($545 before June 12)
While mainly targeted to academic computing folks in the past, EduComm will offer this year some presentations about Web 2.0 technologies. Advance registration is open until June 12. You can register online. - eduWEB Conference – July 22, 23 & 24 in Baltimore, MD ($450 before May 25)
EduWeb offers a program composed of presentations by higher ed professionals, consultants and vendors. The keynote speech, “Marketing and the Web: Trends and Tribulations in Communication” will be presented by Bob Johnson from Bob Johnson Consulting. Early bird registration is open until May 25. You can register online. - HighEdWebDev – October 14, 15, 16 & 17 in Rochester, NY ($429)
Registration is not open yet, but you should definitely consider submitting a proposal before May 31.
