How to get your boss, VP or President up-to-speed with podcasts, blogs and RSS

I’ve already mentioned an easy — free — way to get you, your boss or your colleagues up-to-speed with new media in a previous post.

My offer to get you or anybody else in your institution started with a free Bloglines account loaded with the best higher ed RSS feeds is still on the table (just email me a quick note at karine@collegewebeditor.com).

But, what if it’s not enough? What if you, your VP and/or your President need a bit more hand-holding to learn more about new media (blogs, podcasts, RSS, etc.)?

Got a budget?
Brian Niles at TargetX might have the solution with his new Webinar series: “Technology 101.”

“The sessions are designed for the novice. We will focus on showing you first how to use these tools in your personal lives. Once you start using them yourself, you’ll be better able to understand why and how they can be used in student recruiting. these Webinars.”

I said you’ll need a budget. Nothing huge though as each Webinar will cost you $100 and several people can sit in front of the computer (or even better hook up a laptop to a projector, pump up the volume and pack the room with all your senior officers or your admission staff).

If you’re interested, here’s the program for these 1-hour webinars scheduled at 1PM ET on Wednesdays in May:

> May 10th – Podcasts
> May 17th – Instant Messaging (or IM)
> May 24th – Blogs & Diaries
> May 31st – RSS (or Really Simple Syndication)

You can register online.

I got a “press” pass for the first session about podcasting on May 10, so I’ll try to give you a review.

Disclaimer: Although I should probably get a chocolate box from Brian for this post, I haven’t been and won’t be paid if anybody registers after reading this entry. I just think it might be a good idea to help more people “get” new media. And, I will let you know what I think after attending the first session (so, Brian, you might want to wait for my review before sending the chocolates ;-)
