What’s your relationship status with Analytics?

Ok, I’ll admit it right away, I have a strange relationship with analytics.

Call it a weird interest, a passion or a compulsion, but I’ve been fascinated by the use of digital analytics in higher education since I conducted my 1st online survey about it in 2010.

For the past 5 years, I’ve done all I could to help our great community of digital professionals embrace and use the power of digital analytics to make data-driven decisions.

KEYNOTE Falling in love again with... Analytics PSEWEBI’ve written blog posts and articles, I launched a dedidcated website about the topic (higheredanalytics.com), I’ve asked Joshua Dodson and Liz Gross to develop and teach unique 4-week online professional certificate courses, I’ve hosted 3 annual Higher Ed Analytics conferences and I have given many presentations at several conferences about the topic – and I’ll do it again in 2 weeks in Montreal where I’m scheduled to give a keynote at the PSEWeb Conference.

Between digital analytics and me, it’s strangely personal and 100% driven by passion.

I’m not the only one to feel strongly about analytics in higher ed.

I’ve noticed that most digital (web, social media and all the others) professionals working in higher education usually fall in 2 (maybe 3) different categories:

  1. they are either totally crazy about it – analytics makes them tick, get them excited
  2. they do as much as they can to deal with it as little as possible – no time, no idea, too scared to care
  3. a few are totally frozen in their tracks – not knowing what to do and why they should do anything about it

What about you?
How would you qualify your relationship with Analytics?

I’ve already compiled some great examples for my talk about analytics in higher education, but I’m always interested in fresh perspectives, original initiatives and new ideas.

So, if you belong to the 1st category described above (rooting for analytics!), tell me why you are passionate about it and what it has done for you at work so far. You can email me some details at karine@higheredexperts.com BEFORE Thursday July 16 end of the day.

I’ll get back to you by the end of this week and will let you know if your story makes it to the keynote, a future blog post or can be a great fit for the 2016 Higher Ed Analytics conference.
