Let’s celebrate Star Wars Day!
I’m sure most of you know that today (May 4) is celebrated by Star Wars fans around the world (well, at least the English speaking world, because there is no Star Wars connotation to “4 mai” or this date in other languages :-)
At the University of New Brunswick, Kurtis Knappe, Online Marketing Officer in charge of Student Recruitment, has put together a very nice photo project to celebrate this “holiday.”
Fun social media posts with a purpose
Doing fun things on social media is great, but there should be more to it. That’s why I asked Kurtis about the goal behind this project. Here’s what he explained via email:
“We’re always trying to strike the right balance between information & engagement on our social media accounts—especially our accounts directed at prospective students.
This small project (that took 4 hours in total) is purely focused on the engagement-side.
We want to grow our online community, and we know that fun, original content does that. Who doesn’t want to see Star Wars characters duelling it out around campus? But this content also has an informational purpose: UNB is a fun place to be and study. We want our social media accounts to reflect that.
Since our specific goals are really around audience growth and engagement, we’ll measure our success by new followers/likes, comments and shares on Instagram, Facebook & Twitter. We’ll also use our social media monitoring software (Hootsuite) to catch online conversations around the campaign that we might otherwise miss.”
