Our little world of higher ed has finally its cable TV talk show – except it’s not on cable TV and it’s pretty good.
It looks like Seth Odell (who works at UCLA and blogs at As Media Change) did it.
After weeks of preparation Seth has launched a great new project: Higher Ed Live, a 30-minute live streaming show scheduled on Sundays at 7PM ET.
While I didn’t managed to watch the show live, I caught the archived version this morning.
Tim Nekritz from SUNY Oswego was the inaugural guest and did a great job sharing news and resources about Facebook Places, Scavengr, Gowalla, Foursquare and other players of the geo-social arena.
The 33-minute show was really well produced and offered a quick (maybe not an entry-level one though) overview of its topic of the week.
Seth and Tim also discussed five stories or links (Drake’s D+ campaign, UCLA biz school going private and Google Instant featuring the University of Phoenix when you type “univ” in the search box were the ones I can remember) as part of the “Weekly Five” segment that will be offered every week.
There was also the unsolicited shout-out of the week. In this first episode, dropbox got the honor.
If you haven’t watch it yet, I guess you want to know now if you should.
I’d say give it a try and keep an eye on future episodes.
As I said earlier the show is well-produced and Seth is definitely at ease in front of the camera (although he can speak a bit too quickly from time to time – but, hey who doesn’t?).
Viewers are also invited to post live feedback or question on Twitter (#higheredlive) or even call the show phone line (313 HIGH EDU) during the week to leave questions or comments.
And, you? What do you think?
