I don’t know if this is due to something in the water (or in the air), but the higher ed web community is bubbling with great new initiatives. Here’s a quick list of what’s going on.
- Andy Shaindlin who blogs at Alumni Futures wants to encourage you to brainstorm new ideas to improve higher ed administration with a contest. He provides some help to get your started with your brainstorming as well as nice prizes for the best submitted idea.
- John Strubel, HEE member and Web developer at Charleston Southern University, has been working very hard on a new website targeted to university web designers: eduDesigners.com. I’ve been watching the site developed over the past couple of weeks and I’m really impressed with the quality of what I saw. I plan to interview John soon so he can tell us more about this new initiative.
- Some members of the email distribution list uwebd (which stands for University Web Developers) have also been very active on a new community website. This effort has been spearheaded by Mark Greenfield.
- Other higher ed web professionals have set up new blogs including .eduGuru and Tales from Redesignland (the last one is a cartoon blog, make sure you check it out).
- Matt Herzberger and Brad Ward are working on a project to aggregate the best higher ed feeds at HighEdBlog.
- Seth Meranda from Interactive Media for Higher Education is trying to rally all the higher ed twitterers.
- Stewart Foss from eduStyle is currently working on another very exciting project that will bring more light to the work done by higher ed web designers and developers. More about that soon.
