As announced earlier in the previous post, Higher Ed Webmasters from NJ, unite and meet on June 1st at Ramapo College! , more than 20 people taking care of college/university websites in New Jersey gathered last Wednesday for the first meeting of this newly created group.
Unfortunately, I was not able to make it.
But, Tryon Eggleston from Bloomfield College was kind enough to let me know that Matt Pierce posted his very detailed meeting notes on the group blog.
Here are a couple of interesting points:
- In his presentation “Web Standards, Communications Initiatives”, Matthew Winkel from The College of New Jersey explained what’s done at his institution, but also announced that he’s embarking in a very interesting summer project: a usability study to help define a user-centered redesign strategy for his college website.
- Pat Chang from Ramapo College gave some very good and detailed pointers on how to get started with web portals in his presentation titled “Portals Beyond Technology or How to be on the Cutting edge while avoiding the Bleeding edge.”
I’ll definitely keep an eye on this project. If you want to follow it on your own, its main results will be posted on TCNJ Web Usability page over the summer.
The next conference will be held in September at The College of New Jersey. I’ll keep you posted on the exact date and program of this next meeting.
