Let’s show the power of the higher ed community!

Don’t think we can do it?

Well, yes, we can.

Thanks to Todd Sanders who works at the University of Wisconsin in Green Bay, we have a unique opportunity to do it very simply.

We just need to rally this great community behind Todd and another member of our higher ed family, John Pederson, and help them win a race against 3 other teams composed of TV personalities, wonder mothers and tech gurus.

I realized how talented Todd was in front and behind a camera whe we worked together last Fall on a video sponsored by Higher Ed Experts to introduce Steve Krug’s keynote at the High Ed Web Conference in Cinncinati, OH.

surprise appearance of @tsand 1

When a room of more than 500 higher ed web geeks and communication professionals are showing some love to the keynoter by waving little orange-heart cards, you know that you hit the mark – and Todd helped make that happened.

That’s why I wasn’t surprised when I learned that his 2-person team had been selected along with 3 others among the 2,000 who applied to be part of the MB Tweet Race, a social media campaign run by the automaker for a little football game on February 6.

And, you’ll probably agree if you watch his video application for the contest:

So, Todd works for a university and does great videos, but what does this have to do with us?

Well, to win this race against the TV ladies, the mommies and the hardcore techies, Todd’s team -The MB Team S – needs more friends and followers that will be asked to complete easy tasks (post a photo, retweet, etc.) on Twitter for their team between February 2 and 4.

If Todd and John win, the automaker – who already donated $25,000 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN – will add $20,000 more – so here’s another reason to give Todd a hand a follow (and, you can always unfollow when all is said and done after the little football game).

Todd is also trying to raise $5,000 extra for St Jude to help the children battling cancer – so this is another way for you to show your support with as little as $5 . By making a donation, you’ll also get a chance to win a free pass for the upcoming master class about content strategy in higher education presented by Kristina Halvorson.

So, what should you do to show America the power of the higher ed community?

  1. Like the team’s facebook page
  2. Follow @tsand on Twitter
  3. Be there to help Team Higher Ed (aka Team S) between Feb 2nd and 4th.
